Unicauca at the forefront with a project to strengthen science and technology in the Department

La Universidad -

The research project 'Implementation of a program for the participation and articulation of the regional ecosystem of science, technology and innovation in Cauca' has an investment of $ 6,951,046,254, approved by the Collegiate Body for Administration and Decision, OCAD, of the Fund of Science Technology and Innovation (FCTeI) of the General Royalty System (SGR).

This initiative was formulated by researchers from the InnovAcción Cauca project, led by Álvaro Rendón, and members of the Regional Competitiveness Models Group, headed by Adolfo Plazas Tenorio, with the collaboration of members of the partner organizations, especially local unions and universities. Its objective is to strengthen the regional ecosystem of science, technology and innovation to facilitate the use of knowledge in the social and productive sectors.

“It arises from the work that has been carried out in the region to strengthen the CTeI Ecosystem, especially the two royalty projects called Cauca Innovation and Innovation Centers, whose axes of action have been respectively, the organization of knowledge demand networks and the strengthening of the CTeI systems from the offer (Universities especially) and the creation of the Network of Actors of the CTeI of Cauca ”, affirmed the engineer Plazas Tenorio.

Among the tasks included in this project are the strengthening of inter-institutional trust networks (UEES) for the use of knowledge; the strengthening of the territorial governance of Science, Technology and Innovation in Cauca and the promotion of a culture of innovation among the EU's actors in the department.

According to the teacher and researcher for almost three years now and as part of the sustainability actions of the InnovAcción Cauca Network (Regional Network of actors of CTeI), the proposal was initiated with the participation of the 14 partners of this draft; In the end, with the inclusion of new partners - now they reach 19 - the project to be executed since 2020 is formulated and managed.

Tenorio stressed that what is sought with the project is to strengthen the regional ecosystem of science, technology and innovation "but from the perspective of demand - not supply as was done in the background projects - which aims to promote the use of knowledge - locally produced and foreign - in the social and productive sectors of Cauca to improve its competitiveness and sustainability”.

Although the beneficiary productive and social groups and processes will be defined more precisely in the early stages of the project, three sectors have been established in the proposal: Special Cafes, ICTs and Tourism. For now, progress is made in the pertinent procedures between academia and State that allow 100% to have the requirements to advance an execution with transparency, suitability and quality.

In this way the University of Cauca continues to lead these dynamics of strengthening an ecosystem that has grown in the last 20 years, and that with the aforementioned royalty projects - Nuclei and InnovAcción - has managed to interest and strengthen new actors of the CTeI in the region.

“This is a new step to continue strengthening these new actors and their dynamics, in addition to reaffirming our Unicauca Research System with a more open look towards innovation - not only towards the generation of knowledge where we are already strong - with the claim to support sustainability and competitiveness processes in the region, ”concluded Professor Adolfo Plazas Tenorio.
