Unicauca celebrated 192 years of institutional strengthening

La Universidad -

“Today the University of the Third District turns 192 years of life but is being overshadowed by the vile murders of social leaders and a lapidary environment of mortal threats where they have also included our student leaders, professors and administrators. Enough already. I respectfully request that for a minute we pay a tribute to all the victims of Cauca and the country. We are a university committed to territorial peace, we are committed to the peace process and the construction of a better society under the principles of tolerance, respect for dissent, protection of life and human dignity that are also part of our institutional principles”.

This way, the President  of the University of Cauca initiated the protocol acts on the occasion of the celebration of the 192 years of the University of Cauca, a ceremony that was portrayed in his institutional commitment towards Territorial Peace, which is why a minute of silence for leaders and indigenous people who were killed was held.

In this academic act, the University of Cauca presented two university awards and the Cauca’s University Medal in the category of Eminent Professor of the Faculty of Natural, Exact and Educational Sciences and current Director of the Center for Quality Management and the Institutional Accreditation, Miguel Hugo Corchuelo Mora.

“It is an honor and a privilege to have a few minutes to express this deep gratitude to God, to the Honorable Superior Council and to all of you, university community, for this recognition. To my family for their support, for their wise advice. In truth, God's way surprises us every day. It is about  a historical legacy arranged in different works, in different tracks, in the documents and that is in our academic DNA and in fact it is revealed to our peers at each visit and commits us to continuous improvement, ”said the teacher.

Also the Archbishop of Popayán, Monsignor Luis José Rueda Aparicio recived a recognizion by the University of Cauca, due to his contribution to bring a message of peace and reconciliation to the different communities of the department of Cauca. “I express my gratitude to all attendees and especially to the President of the University with whom we have shared moments of difficulty in the city and in the Department, seeking through reflection and dialogue, discernment and answers and a way out…. Every day a hope grows in the middle of the conflict and of the situations that threaten our Department… ”, Monsignor Luis José Rueda Aparicio emphasized during his speech.

The Governor of Cauca, Engineer Oscar Rodrigo Campo Hurtado, received the university’s recognition for his contribution in the construction of the institutional project, in infrastructure, research and investment. “It is an honor as a graduate of the University of Cauca and as Governor of  Cauca’s inhabitants  at the end of my period to have the satisfaction of having returned the formation I received from actions and works. All our recognition to my University where I trained as an Engineer and outlined a good part of my life’s project that today allows me as Governor to join efforts to enlarge it, “concluded the Governor of Cauca.
