Unicauca advances towards the differential rate

La Universidad -

More than a thousand undergraduate students who are currently carrying out practical or laboratory activities will benefit in the month of December with mobility in the city of Popayán with the payment of a differential rate.

It is an alliance between the University of Cauca and the transport company Transpubenza, which was promoted by the student movement and which had the support of the University Directorate through the Rectory and the Vice-Rectory for Culture and Well-being, which will allow reducing the costs of the passage to students in Popayán, thereby seeking guarantees to continue with their university studies.

"It is an achievement that the student movement achieved from the negotiation table that began to function in 2018, and given the conditions generated by the pandemic, it enables the mobilization of students to carry out practical activities as part of their training," said Hernán Ospina, student representative before the Council of Culture and Well-being.

He added that a good job was achieved, a good dialogue was achieved and this proposal that was born in student mobilization was achieved, obtaining financial resources and support from the University Directorate, fundamental support to continue building participatory processes.

In this sense, the Vice-Rector for Culture and Well-being affirmed that it is a project that we are beginning to execute and that seeks to continue for longer, seeking the support of the Mayor's Office of Popayán and of companies that provide transportation service to stay with a fee differential.

"The university understands the socioeconomic situation of students and their families at this time, for us it is a priority for students to finish their semester and in that sense we do this so that they can complete their practices or laboratories, partially mitigating the effects of the pandemic”, indicated the Vice-Rector for Culture and Well-being, Deibar René Hurtado Herrera.

The Vice-Rector's Office for Culture and Welfare has planned to commit a financial resource that allows subsidizing a part of the payment for transportation to students, as well as resources from last year's mobilization day, another part of the transportation fee will be subsidized and the company Transpubenza will give a contribution to complete the value of the ticket.

The Manager of the company Transporte Pubenza de Popayán, Antonio Villamarín, indicated that the agreement is part of a joint effort with the University of Cauca to stimulate the economy, at this time they are working with 50 percent, but it is very important to contribute in this process. In this regard, he clarified that the company already has experience with similar agreements signed with the INEM Francisco José de Caldas and the Alejandro de Humboldt National High School.

"This alliance will allow us to support with a better service and transport our students in the city of Popayán with a subsidized rate, benefiting students especially from levels 0.1 and 2", stated the Manager of Transpubenza.

It is noteworthy that this proposal is led by the student movement through the spokespersons and the assemblies held, and that it began in 2018 with the differential rate project that today yields the first fruits so that students have this important support that it will allow their mobility in the city.
