Two New Portraits of Former Rectors Unveiled in the Founders' Hall at the University of Cauca
The Founders' Hall, where the University began its operations on November 11, 1827, now features a gallery of 154 portraits of the individuals who have led the Alma Mater of the people of Cauca to date.
In a solemn ceremony held in the Founders' Hall of the Faculty of Law, Political, and Social Sciences at the Santo Domingo Cloister, two new portraits of former rectors were unveiled. The new oil-on-canvas paintings depict Harold Alberto Muñoz and Danilo Reinaldo Vivas Ramos. These works were created by Fabián Esteban Guzmán Ramírez, a Master of Fine Arts, who, adhering to the hall's stylistic guidelines, captures the evolution of artistic expression, particularly in lighting techniques.
"He loved this Alma Mater so much that he remains here, not only in this portrait but also in spirit, his soul resting peacefully in this place," remarked Magistrate Ana María Muñoz, daughter of former Rector Harold Muñoz, who led the reconstruction of the University of Cauca following the 1983 earthquake.
In his speech, former Rector Danilo Reinaldo Vivas Ramos praised the work of Master Fabián Guzmán, the artist behind four of the portraits displayed in the Founders' Hall. He also highlighted the remarkable level of realism achieved in the oil paintings recently installed.
The Founders' Hall, also named after the distinguished Rector Benjamín Irragori Diez, is the location where the University began its operations on November 11, 1827. Today, its walls display a gallery of 154 portraits of the individuals who have led the Alma Mater of the people of Cauca to date.
