La Universidad -

With the Seminar ‘Perspectives of Environmental Management and Social Interaction in Unicauca”, cultural and academic activities were discussed that allowed the work of the Alma Mater members promoting environmental management to become visible.

The Tourism program in conjunction with the GITUR Tourism and Regional Development Research Group, the Office of the Vice President for Research, the Center for Quality Management and Institutional Accreditation and the Office of the Vice President for Culture and Welfare conducted the Seminar 'Perspectives on Environmental Management and Social Interaction  in Unicauca.

"We want to share that the Tourism program is committed to environmental management, that this management is not only flora and fauna but also to work with the communities, it is to look at what their needs and requirements are and from the program we want to support and contribute to them in the process”, expressed Luz Stella Pemberthy, teacher of the Department of Tourism Sciences.

The academic activity that took place on Tuesday, March 10 in Auditorium 401 of the Faculty of Accounting, Economic and Administrative Sciences of the University of Cauca, included different cultural and academic activities that allowed the work of the members of the Alma Mater to be made visible and promote environmental management.

"Tourism is an economic dynamic and is very important worldwide, but with contributions such as this event and this view of knowledge management processes allow us to work on economic development, taking care of nature and without abusing it," added the professor. Light Stella Pemberthy.

The biologist Lorena Alvear Narváez during her presentation conceptualized the attendees on different terms of environmental management in the urban environment. Likewise, she called for Tourism programs to have environmental management plans that guarantee the protection of ecosystem services and natural assets. "We must prioritize the conservation and care of our nature and we must try to make it a harmonious work," she emphasized.

"It is a collective and community commitment that must be had, there are no given responsibilities but shared, as cities are a collective construction. However, this commitment must go hand in hand with government institutions, who must carry out an effective environmental management policy exercise,” she clarified.

To conclude, the Biologist recognized that the exercise carried out by the Tourism program of the University of Cauca is important because, when proposing environmental management as a necessity, it recognizes what is happening in the territory, and from that fact it can be determined that they can contribute.

"The call for students is to get involved in the processes, because in these experiences it is where you learn the most because you get involved with the community and above all recognize the environmental reality not only in the city environment but also in the rural environment" she concluded.
