Teams that will represent Unicauca in regional Hult Prize 2021 selected

The three teams made up of students from the Universidad del Cauca, CAV Team, FOODUS and HOMEGROWN continue in this competition that has been called "the nobel prize for students."

 

The Hult Prize OnCampus Unicauca 2020 program was successfully completed. The final was held on Saturday, November 14, where the teams registered in the competition presented their business ideas related to the food industry and were evaluated by seven judges, three from Jamaica. , Palestine and the United States.

 

“AESS Unicauca was the team in charge of the realization, management and logistics of the OnCampus 2020 program, carrying out webinars, informative talks and trainings for the participants and the community in general, bringing the impact of the largest university movement in the world to our University del Cauca”, stated Dairo Arce Ceballos, X semester student of Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications and Director of OnCampus Hult Prize Unicauca.

The three teams selected in this competition will have the opportunity to represent the Universidad del Cauca in the regional stages of the Hult Prize, the world's largest university entrepreneurship accelerator, which has been called "the Nobel Prize for students" and will have the Opportunity to advance to the accelerator phase at Ashridge Castle in London, England, where your business ideas will be enhanced through specialized mentoring with international business experts.

 

“The teams continue in the race to be the winners of the seed capital of 1 million dollars awarded as the final prize for their business idea to be brought to market and positively impact the lives of at least 10 million people by the year 2030 ”, Adds the Director of OnCampus Hult Prize Unicauca.

 

The winning team was CAV Team, who with their business idea called "AquaTerra" proposes to develop an aquaponic system, which allows, through the deployment of these systems in homes, to provide people with a self-sustaining power source that is friendly to the environment and that in turn creates jobs and positively impacts the less favored communities.

 

The second place in the competition was occupied by the FOODUS team, who proposed a business idea that seeks to implement a logistics distributor to facilitate the distribution of food, involving producers, distributors and consumers, strengthening the supply chain and allowing producers of food to have fairer income and consumers to have access to lower prices with high quality food products.

 

The third place was occupied by the HOMEGROWN team, which proposes a business model based on urban agriculture where it is possible to equip the people of the cities with the tools and knowledge necessary for the production of food in their homes through vertical agriculture, hydroponics and through the use of technology applied to agriculture that allows obtaining quality and healthy food, without the use of pesticides or fertilizers and where cities become sources of food production and not just consumption and through this economic development is generated , help the planet and contribute to the food security necessary to meet the world's needs by the 2030s.
