María Magdalena Falla from the Department of Physics presented a research paper at the Sixth Andean Congress on Computing, Informatics, and Education (CACIED 2023). The work was related to data science applications and ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies) in education, aiming to identify the main factors contributing to dropout rates at the University of Cauca through supervised classification.

Professor María Magdalena Falla, affiliated with the Department of Physics at the University of Cauca, took part in the Sixth Andean Congress on Computing, Informatics, and Education (CACIED 2023) where she delivered the presentation titled "Characterization of the main factors influencing dropout rates at the University of Cauca: a data-driven approach."

The work by Professor María Magdalena Falla is associated with applications of data science and ICTs in education, seeking to identify the primary causes contributing to dropout rates at the University of Cauca through supervised classification for predicting dropout rates from the first semester of 2018 to the first semester of 2021.

CACIED, held from November 8th to 10th in the city of Pasto, is a gathering of researchers, educators, professionals, and students from Andean countries aiming to share and socialize their experiences and research in Computer Science, Informatics, and Education. The congress included various presentations by guest professionals, poster exhibitions, and lectures covering fields such as data science, software engineering, and ICT in education.

Participation in this event facilitated wide dissemination of the results and also opened the possibility of submitting the presented work to an indexed national journal.
