Strengthening territories through arts, music, and education in our country's regions is the main cultural commitment of the government of change with the Presidential Program Sounds for Peace Building.

This presidential program is made possible in zone 6 thanks to the agreement signed between the University of Cauca and the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Knowledge, an alliance that supports the interest in fostering citizenship for peace in southwestern Colombia.

The University of Cauca Joined the Entretejido Sonoro, Colombian Musical Landscape

The team from the Presidential Program Sounds for Peacebuilding, led in Zone 6 by the University of Cauca, had the opportunity to attend the concert Entretejido Sonoro, Colombian Musical Landscape. It was a significant experience highlighting the power of artistic expressions in strengthening social cohesion. Over 300 artists and 8 public universities gathered on August 14 at the Teatro Los Fundadores in Manizales, where music shone in a celebration of culture.

Entretejido Sonoro brought together 200 children from symphonic bands in the Department of Caldas and 60 members of the Children’s Choir of the Coffee Region, along with prominent Colombian artists such as Antonio Arnedo, DJ Julián Cardona, Ensamble Cruzao, Tambor Hembra, Diana Pereira, Laura Sofía del Casanare, and María Mulata.

Eight Public Universities Working for Education and the Continuity of Musical Knowledge Highlight the Significant Inter-Institutional Effort Represented by Sounds for Peacebuilding, Aiming to Implement Musical Training Processes in 1,590 Educational Institutions Across 687 Municipalities Nationwide.

The teams from the universities leading this strategy in various regions participated in working groups on August 15 at the Centro Cultural Salmona of the University of Caldas. This space allowed for the exchange of experiences and learnings regarding the program's implementation processes, where collaborative efforts were discussed, strengthening bonds of fraternity and solidarity among public universities.“In this meeting, the words, sounds, and silences that allow us to reconcile came together to recognize a significant alliance for peacebuilding. From the territorial knowledge and the contexts of the regions, we understand that each song and artistic expression helps build identity, dignity, and a more tolerant Colombia,” expressed Claudia Hurtado Triviño, Director of the Presidential Program Sounds for Peacebuilding in Zone 6.

Three Territories, One Melody: A Meeting for Peace and the Reconstruction of Social Fabric

As part of the Presidential Program Sounds for Peacebuilding, the event "Three Territories, One Melody" was held as a space for interaction among the leaders of prioritized educational institutions and various institutional actors, including leaders, organizers, artists, and teachers who believe in the transformative power of education and culture in Zone 6, covering the departments of Cauca, Huila, and Nariño.

El evento contó con la participación de los niños del grupo musical Proyectos, Caminos, Flautas y Juegos de las veredas la Rejoya y Villanueva del municipio de Popayán, quienes a través de sus sonidos conectaron a los asistentes con esta importante iniciativa, que tiene como propósito implementar procesos de formación musical en 227 Establecimientos Educativos de los 3 departamentos. Sonidos para la Construcción de Paz es posible en el sur occidente del país, gracias al convenio suscrito entre la Universidad del Cauca y el Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y los saberes, con el objetivo de beneficiar a 45.400 niños, niñas, jóvenes y adolescentes. Este espacio se desarrolló gracias al apoyo de la Secretaría de Educación del Departamento del Cauca, la Vicerrectoría de Cultura y Bienestar, la Vicerrectoría de Investigaciones y la División de Innovación Emprendimiento y Articulación con el Entorno de la Universidad del Cauca, sumando esfuerzos institucionales que promueven el fortalecimiento de prácticas y pensamientos artísticos en su diversidad, desde una perspectiva de garantía de derechos. Cabe mencionar que en este significativo espacio participó también la Banda Municipal de La Cruz Nariño y la Banda Municipal San Miguel de Garzón Huila, a través de una proyección audiovisual que permitió a los asistentes conocer un poco sobre los procesos de formación musical que se adelantan en estos territorios. El Ministerio de las Culturas las Artes y los Saberes, la Universidad del Cauca y la Secretaría de Educación Departamental agradecen a todas y todos los asistentes, y a quienes estuvieron conectados de manera remota con este evento. “Desde la zona 6 resaltamos los procesos de apoyo y relacionamiento con los territorios, los sabedores y sabedoras, y todas las personas que desde sus escenarios locales y desde sus cotidianidades apuestan por las artes, la educación y la cultura como herramientas fundamentales para la construcción de paz en Colombia”, comentó la directora del programa de la zona 6, Claudia Hurtado Triviño.

The event featured children from the musical group Proyectos, Caminos, Flautas y Juegos from the villages of La Rejoya and Villanueva in the municipality of Popayán, who connected attendees to this important initiative through their sounds. The goal is to implement musical training processes in 227 educational institutions across the three departments. This event was supported by the Education Department of Cauca, the Vice-Rectorate of Culture and Welfare, the Vice-Rectorate of Research, and the Division of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Community Engagement at the University of Cauca, uniting institutional efforts to promote the strengthening of artistic practices and diverse thoughts from a rights-based perspective. It is also worth mentioning that the Municipal Band of La Cruz Nariño and the Municipal Band of San Miguel de Garzón Huila participated through an audiovisual presentation that allowed attendees to learn about the musical training processes underway in these territories.

The Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Knowledge, the University of Cauca, and the Departmental Education Secretariat express their gratitude to all attendees and those who connected remotely for this event. “From Zone 6, we highlight the support processes and relationships with the territories, the local knowledge holders, and all those who, from their local contexts and everyday lives, advocate for the arts, education, and culture as fundamental tools for peacebuilding in Colombia,” commented Claudia Hurtado Triviño, director of the program in Zone 6.

Strengthening Environments and Dignified Job Opportunities is One of the Major Goals of the Presidential Program Sounds for Peacebuilding.

The University of Cauca has been advancing all the necessary processes to establish a database of resumes and evaluate and select the profiles that currently make up the human talent of the program for Zone 6, in accordance with the criteria set for the implementation of the agreement.

The team in this zone consists of 187 professionals and knowledgeable individuals linked to the program through the University of Cauca, driving the implementation of the pedagogical strategy. A total of 2,470 individuals are registered, including Territorial Managers, Territorial Support Staff, Trainer Artists, and Knowledgeable Artists, reaffirming the relevance of projects of this nature and their commitment to the cultural development of the territories and regions of the country. Sounds for Peacebuilding not only represents an unprecedented pedagogical initiative but also creates opportunities for socio-labor inclusion and the strengthening of dignified job environments and opportunities.

Trainer Artists and Knowledgeable Individuals Reach School Environments

Trainer Artists and Knowledgeable Individuals have begun musical training activities that will benefit 45,400 children, youth, and adolescents in the departments of Cauca, Huila, and Nariño, as part of the presidential program Sounds for Peacebuilding. Artistic education is a valuable tool for transformation and the reconstruction of social fabric, fostering spaces for peaceful interaction, tolerance, collective creation, sensitivity, and coexistence. This significant pedagogical initiative materializes through the daily work of the Trainer Artists and Knowledgeable Individuals who are committed to the integral education of the younger generation.

So far, 200 coverage agreements have been established with the leadership of the 227 educational institutions prioritized by the program to recognize and define the pedagogical routes to be implemented, taking into account local dynamics, territorial knowledge, and the training processes already underway in each institution.

“We are pleased to have begun pedagogical work in the educational institutions covered by the Sounds for Peacebuilding program in Zone 6, encompassing the departments of Cauca, Huila, and Nariño, thanks to the agreement signed between the University of Cauca and the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Knowledge. We already have trainers and knowledgeable individuals in the classrooms and continue working to meet our goal of reaching all 87 municipalities in the three departments.
