Special Guest Professor William Mina Aragón at the Historic and Cultural Reunion between Kenya and Colombia.
The professor from the Political Science program at the University of Cauca participated in an academic session focused on the work and legacy of Manuel Zapata Olivella and his relationship with the historic Kenyan leader Jomo Kenyatta.
By special invitation from the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Colombian Embassy in Kenya, through Ambassador Pedro León Cortés Ruiz, Professor William Mina Aragón, affiliated with the Faculty of Law, Political, and Social Sciences at the University of Cauca, participated in the Historic and Cultural Reunion between Kenya and Colombia. This event took place on November 21 and 22, 2023, in Nairobi, Kenya.
The professor from the Political Science program participated in an academic session focused on the work and legacy of Manuel Zapata Olivella and his relationship with the historic Kenyan leader Jomo Kenyatta, which was significant in Zapata Olivella's thought and literary work.

"This visit was of utmost importance to highlight and position the efforts made by the Political Science program, as well as its GIAPRIP research group, and, in general, our University of Cauca, to bring visibility to Afro-Colombian studies at the national and international levels. It allowed us to create academic and institutional ties within the framework of the research projects developed at the University," emphasized the professor.
William Mina Aragón holds a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of Valle, a Doctorate in Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid, and is the author of nine books that reveal him as a distinguished disciple of Manuel Zapata Olivella. Some of his works include: History, Politics, and Society (1977); Poetry and Political Philosophy (1999); Afro Thought: Beyond East and West (2003); Manuel Zapata Olivella: Humanist Thinker (2006); Art, Literature, and Politics (2008); Afro-Caucan Human Rights (2009).
