Social interaction project on Francisco José de Caldas presents positive balance
The project that includes 22 panels was exhibited in cities and municipalities of Cauca and Valle del Cauca, where it caught the attention of national and international institutions.
Within the framework of the celebration of the 10 years of the Tourism program of the Universidad del Cauca, the balance of the project “Traveling Exhibition on the life and work of the Wise Francisco José de Caldas as a pedagogical strategy in the framework of cultural industries” was presented in creative and social interaction ”, the result of the work of the GITUR Tourism and Regional Development Research Group and led by Andrés José Castrillón, Dean of the Faculty of Accounting, Economic and Administrative Sciences.
The social interaction project presented 22 large-format panels on the life and work of Francisco José de Caldas, as a humanist, botanist, astronomer, cartographer, promoter of scientific journalism and forger of a national identity; Practically unknown achievements in the city and in the region, which in contrast, with in the international scientific context, gains greater recognition each year.
“The project tried to draw the attention of the educational system to recover a history that has somehow been forgotten. We are at a time when tourism is an important bastion, not only for the development of economies, but it is an intellectual capital for students to remember the importance of its territory, its characters and its history, "said the Dean Castrillón.
During his speech, the Dean presented the results, these being positive since the initiative that he planned to take the exhibition to three municipalities, exceeded expectations as he toured educational and cultural institutions in Popayán such as the Los Comuneros Educational Institution, the Colegio Mayor del Cauca , the Mosquera House Museum and the National Bank. In addition, Santander de Quilichao and Paispamba also witnessed the exhibition, as did the San Buenaventura University of Santiago de Cali in Valle del Cauca.
He highlighted the invitation made by two International Higher Education Institutions, the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the University of Huelva in Spain, who were linked to this initiative through research groups which validated the pedagogical strategy.
Finally, Andrés José Castrillón expressed his interest in continuing to work on these projects using other types of methodologies, which can become a form of expression and interaction mediated by information technology. "What is proposed is that through Information Technology all content can be provided in a friendly and easy to understand way that can recover our history, positioning our territory and Colombia," he concluded.
The project "Traveling Exhibition on the life and work of the Wise Francisco José de Caldas as a pedagogical strategy in the framework of cultural and creative industries and social interaction" emerged within the framework of the Division's First Strategy for Strengthening Social Interaction of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Articulation with the Environment, a unit attached to the Office of the Vice President for Research at the University of Cauca.
