From March 26 to 28, the capital of the Cauca department will host the VII National and International Communication Congress and the IX Research Seedbed Meeting, AFACOM 2025.

The organization that brings together 69 Communication Faculties and University Programs is ready to unite students, professors, and researchers around this special field. The VII National and International Communication Congress and the IX Research Seedbed Meeting, AFACOM 2025, will take place on March 26, 27, and 28, 2025, in the city of Popayán. This event is organized by the Social Communication programs of the University of Cauca, Comfacauca University Corporation, and the Popayán University Foundation, in coordination with the Colombian Association of Communication Faculties and University Programs – AFACOM.

This seventh edition of the Congress will be held under the theme "Communication in Plural: Cultures, Territories, and Memories (knowledge, dialogues, and practices),” addressing the diversity of communication fields from the perspectives of academic training and professional practice in teaching, research, and social outreach. In this academic space, professors, researchers, and student research groups will present progress or final results of their work conducted in different regions of the country. Participants may attend as speakers or as an audience at academic activities and discussion panels, where they will reflect on the richness of communication as a field of study. The event will explore multiple epistemic approaches, educational traditions, methodological experiences, and research practices that converge, interact, or contrast within the Colombian and Latin American context.

“This event is important because, for the first time, the Social Communication Program is hosting a congress with a national call and international participation. It features four renowned guests in the field of communication and social sciences: Carlos Scolari, Rossana Reguillo, Gabriel Kaplún, and Graciela Martínez. Each of them will address communication and social phenomena through two activities: a keynote lecture and thematic discussions with a limited audience of interested participants,” said Felipe García, professor of Social Communication at the University of Cauca and current Department Head.

Regarding the participation of Unicauca members in the event, Professor García highlighted that faculty members will present their research papers and moderate discussion panels. He also emphasized that "There is significant participation from alumni, as many of them are professors and colleagues at partner universities. Some even work with us. This is not about an insular perspective but rather recognizing the contributions and work of our graduates."
