Popayán Ciudad Libro: An Invitation to Enjoy a Literary and Cultural Space
The official launch of the cultural event Popayán Ciudad Libro will take place on September 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Guillermo Valencia Municipal Theater.
The special guest to kick off a new year of discussions on literature and art and their importance in building the cultural landscape of Popayán is Colombian singer-songwriter Adriana Lucía. Known for her powerful voice, unique style, and blending traditional rhythms with modern sounds like (porrock), Adriana Lucía is one of Colombia's most recognized artists.
Starting at 5:30 p.m., when the doors of the Guillermo Valencia Municipal Theater open, you can be part of the seventh edition of the Popayán Ciudad Libro launch event. Since 2018, this city-wide event has invited the community to delve into a reflection on the role of culture, literature, and art in nation-building, addressing the various social and academic realities faced in the department. This year, Adriana Lucía will lead the way into a week full of academic and cultural activities in the city.
With over 25 years of artistic career, Adriana Lucía has captivated audiences of all ages and is projected as one of the most representative artists of Colombian sound. Her performances traverse Caribbean music genres such as porro, cumbia, vallenato, and champeta, which she fuses with modern and contemporary sounds to create a fresh and authentic musical experience.

Hits like “Quiero que te quedes,” “Llegaste tú,” “Enamórate como yo,” and “Champeta rosa,” among others, along with renditions of traditional songs such as “Festival en Guararé,” “La Piragua,” and “20 de enero,” are part of her live repertoire. These have led the artist to be nominated for the 2024 Premios Nuestra Tierra, where she won the category for “Best Folk Artist of the Year.” She has also been nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards (2016-2017) and won multiple categories at the Premios Shock, including “Voice of the Year” (2008), “Best Female Soloist” (2013), and “Best Soloist” (2014), among other accolades.

Please remember that entry to the Guillermo Valencia Municipal Theater will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will continue until full capacity is reached. Admission is completely free.

Adriana Lucía was born in the corregimiento of El Carito, Córdoba, and has been promoting Colombian folklore through her music ever since.
