PhD in Computer Science from Unicauca holds its first international colloquium

The event was attended by international speakers and doctoral students who are presenting research results in Cuba, Chile, Panama and Mexico.

We are a relatively young doctorate because we are only in the second cohort, but we wanted to bet on this event so that our students, together with a collaboration network that we are putting together with other countries, can present the progress of their research theses. Said the professor of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications of the University of Cauca, Martha Eliana Mendoza Becerra, during the First International Colloquium of the Doctorate in Computer Science, organized by the research groups GICO Computational Intelligence and Research Group; and Development in Information Technologies GTI, in alliance with the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia UPTC.

Martha Eliana Mendoza Becerra added that the event that took place on December 16, 2022 in person and virtually, had the participation of international speakers and doctoral students who are presenting research results in countries such as: Cuba, Chile, Panama and Mexico. National speakers from Armenia, Bucaramanga and Tunja. And specifically from the University of Cauca, students of the Master's Degree in Computing.

“I invite you to sign up. Registration will be open until December 22. This is a doctorate that arises from the region and for the region, so that people do not have to leave and can continue their advanced training here in their hometown. Also, we hope to hold our next colloquium, which we hope to hold every year and to be able to have this space to disseminate the progress of the research theses”, added the Coordinator of this Graduate Program.

Manuel Pastrana Pardo, a professor at the Antonio José Camacho University Institution and a PhD student in Computer Science, indicated that the event is an opportunity for researchers doing doctoral studies to share the status of their research and relevant contributions to the date. “It is an enriching opportunity because not only people from Colombia participate. We have invited researchers from Mexico, Chile and Cuba who have shared with us during the different sessions an enriching content that is not only interesting from the contributions they give, but also enriches our investigative work in a collaborative way”, added the student who currently You take your first successful candidacy exam in the program.

“One of the interesting things about the doctoral programs is that they are focused on the fact that the research is applied research to a certain extent, that is, that it has an impact on society. The various projects that were presented are related to issues that are highly addressed in the industry and, as they generate their advances, they cause a certain impact in the various sectors to which they are applying”, he pointed out.
