Payanese doctor graduated from the University of Cauca is among the most prominent nephrologists in the world

In the framework of the XVIII Congress of the Latin American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension, the doctor Edgar Sanclemente Paz, graduated in 1961 from Unicauca, received from the president of the International Society of Nephrology, the distinction as Pioneer of Nephrology in Latin America and the Caribbean, awarded at the World Congress of Nephrology, which was held in Melbourne (Australia).

 

For his important achievements as a pioneer of Nephrology in Latin America, the prominent medical professional, Edgar Sanclemente Paz, a surgeon graduated from the University of Cauca, who advanced his postgraduate studies at Tulane University in New Orleans, United States, has been the subject of various distinctions both in Colombia and abroad, because he has contributed with his work to the development of Nephrology and the well-being of the community that has received the benefit of his knowledge in this branch of internal medicine, which deals with the study of the structure and renal function, as well as the prevention and treatment of kidney diseases.

 

Likewise, Dr. Edgar Sanclemente Paz, specialist in internal medicine at the University of Antioquia, who has also been a professor at Tulane University and the Universities of Cauca, del Valle, la Javeriana, among other institutions in Colombia and abroad, has received other tributes, among others, the one conferred by the International Society of Nephrology, since this professional is considered among the sixteen most prominent nephrologists in the world;

 

He was also distinguished for his achievements as a nephrologist in the academic and healthcare fields; He is the author of several books, including "The Kidney in Tropical Diseases" and a hundred scientific articles.

 

Doctor Sanclemente Paz, who was a student representative before the Superior Council of the University of Cauca in 1960, was also awarded the Eminent Professor Award in 1984 by the Colombian Association of Internal and Resident Physicians in Cali.

 

“Being an alumnus of the Universidad del Cauca is my great pride and satisfaction because not only did it train me academically, but it instilled in me the highest human values. The recognition of my alma mater worldwide, honors me as one of the graduates of this prestigious cloister,”said surgeon Sanclemente Paz.

 

In addition, he was the subject of a tribute as a Founding Member of the Colombian Association of Nephrology and Hypertension in Bogotá, in 2017; Likewise, in Popayán, his hometown, he received a Recognition from the Colombian Association of Nephrology and Hypertension in 2018, as well as the Pioneer Prize for Nephrology in Latin America and the Caribbean (Pioneer 2019 Award) by the International Society of Nephrology 2019.

 

Finally, he indicated that the biggest surprise of his life occurred in December 2018, when he received the news from the president of the International Society of Nephrology based in Melbourne (Australia) who told him that he had been chosen as a pioneer of Nephrology in Latin America and the Caribbean, award given to the most prominent nephrologist of each continent and he joined the elite group of Nephrology.
