ONDAS Program - Cauca Makes Science and Research a Life Option for Boys and Girls
Luis Eduardo Ullune Tombé from the Misak Mama Manuela Educational Institution will travel on the Mission Mexico: Ondas Researchers with his research project on the ancestral knowledge of the "shures" and "shuras" regarding types of water, water spirits, and their interaction in the areas surrounding the educational institution.
With the leadership of a project that aims to analyze ancestral knowledge, student Luis Eduardo Ullune Tombé from the Misak Mama Manuela Educational Institution in the municipality of Silvia was selected to participate in the Mission Mexico: Ondas Researchers. Luis Eduardo is associated with the ONDAS Cauca program, which promotes interest in STEAM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) among Colombian children and adolescents, with a special focus on gender, ethnicity, and territory, making science a life option that contributes to the development of their communities.
We highlight that Luis Eduardo Ullune Tombé is part of the research group 'PIWAM MERA (The Dialogue of the Piurek Water),' a group dedicated to designing a web application similar to a geographic information system (GIS) that integrates the water worldview of the Shures and Shuras with the students of Cycle 5, ninth grade, at the Misak Mama Manuela Educational Institution.
The project aims to analyze the ancestral knowledge of the 'shures' and 'shuras' concerning types of water, water spirits, and their interaction in the areas surrounding the educational institution. It also seeks to co-create the GIS web application by integrating various disciplines and knowledge acquired in the classroom, and to evaluate the impact of the application on Cycle 3 students and teachers at the educational facility
It is worth noting that the Universidad del Cauca is responsible for implementing the Ondas-Cauca Program, which is the main strategy of Minciencias to promote a civic and democratic culture in Science, Technology, and Innovation (CTeI) among girls, boys, adolescents, and young people in the country. In the department of Cauca, it has been running for over 10 years, strengthening the culture of CTeI in all municipalities.
On its part, the Mission Mexico: Ondas Researchers aims to establish support networks with the Colombian scientific diaspora in this country and strengthen the bond between both nations, enhancing the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
This achievement is a point of pride for the entire ONDAS program community and the Universidad del Cauca. We hope this recognition will inspire more students to continue nurturing their scientific vocations and to actively participate in projects that drive the scientific and technological development of their communities.
