OCAD approves Unicauca’s projects that strengthen the region

The OCAD Collegiate Body for Administration and Decision No. 69 approved a project of the Bicentennial doctoral excellence scholarship program and two projects under transition. The three presented through Colciencias.

 

Three research proposals from the Universidad del Cauca were approved during the 69th session of the Collegiate Body for Administration and Decision, OCAD of the Science, Technology and Innovation Fund, FCTeI, of the General Royalty System, SGR which was carried out on Friday, December 13, where 13 projects of Higher Education Institutions between public and private were approved for a value of $ 14.5 billion pesos.

 

The projects, ‘High-level human capital formation’ presented by Luis Guillermo Jaramillo, Academic Vice-Rector and Héctor Samuel Villada Castillo, Research Vice-Rector; ‘Research and development for the strengthening of the strawberry production chain in the department of Cauca’ presented by Professor José Luis Hoyos of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences; and 'Development of bio packaging from Amazonian renewable Amazon resources', the latter in alliance with the “Sinche” of the Amazonas Institute and the Research Group on Biomolecules Science and Technology of Agroindustrial Interest CYTBIA, which generates positive results not only for the University of Cauca but that positively impacts different regions of the country.

 

The first of these projects aims to continue the formation of high-level human talent by strengthening the process of qualification at the Doctoral level in southwest Colombia. “The initiative impacts five departments, three of them (Huila, Guaviare and Putumayo) have not had a doctoral training, so increasing the 1.6% of doctors that the department of Cauca brings to the whole country is a big impact not only for the institutional accreditation of the University of Cauca, but also the social impact through its focuses related to the priorities that departments and regions have. We are talking about education, health, territorial development, ICTs and other series of important focus for the region where academia and social development work is working, ”said Luis Guillermo Jaramillo, Academic Vice Chancellor of the University of Cauca.

 

The second and third projects will generate positive results not only for the University of Cauca but to build alliances nationwide. “The university wants general research and development processes in partnership with other universities to seek an impact not only locally but internationally. From the Vice Rector's Office, what is wanted is to try to make visible the results of the research groups of the different faculties at the departmental and national levels,”concluded the Vice Chancellor Villada Castillo.
