Professor Luz Stella was a pioneer in many ways, as she became the first Emeritus Researcher at the University of Cauca and one of the first women in Colombia to receive this lifelong distinction. Her passion for science and unwavering dedication led her to found the Research Group in Genetic and Cytogenetic Toxicology, from which she made valuable contributions to the fields of biology and occupational health.

Her academic journey was as diverse as it was admirable. She earned her degree in Biology from the University of Antioquia in 1975, later specializing in Environmental Toxicology and Genetics at the University of Texas, Houston, in 1991. Her pursuit of knowledge did not stop there—she obtained a Master’s in Occupational Health in 2003 and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences in 2011, both from the University of Antioquia.
