Literature and Interpretation: A Conference Series in Tribute to the Career of Professor Álvaro Luciano Rivera Rojas.
On the occasion of Professor Álvaro Luciano Rivera Rojas's retirement, the Department of Spanish and Literature at the University of Cauca organized a special event on September 26 in the Virginia Gutiérrez Auditorium of the El Carmen Cloister, focused on this Unicaucan's passion: literature!
As our people are our most valuable heritage, nothing is more rewarding than the opportunity to express gratitude for the commitment of those who, day after day for decades, have helped us build this dream we call the University. For this reason, the transition of one of our professors to a new stage in his life fills us with nostalgia, but above all, with profound gratitude, leading us to pay tribute. Professors like Álvaro Rivera, who teach with passion and share personal anecdotes and experiences in the classroom, transcend academic knowledge to leave an indelible mark on our hearts. Their teachings go beyond textbooks, becoming life lessons.

Thus, as a tribute and a sign of gratitude for his unforgettable legacy, the Department of Spanish and Literature organized the Conference Series: Literature and Interpretation, a meeting space held on September 26 in the Virginia Gutiérrez Auditorium. In addition to an engaging discussion with Professor Felipe Restrepo, the Faculty Council presented Professor Luciano with an award for his educational contributions over many years of teaching.
“Professor Luciano is an excellent teacher; he has a unique way of teaching and loves literature. He knows so much and commands great respect. I appreciate him greatly because once he graded an essay of mine and told me I was made for literature, and I’ve never forgotten that,” said student Camila Hurtado. Similarly, Carlos Alberto Pérez, who also had the opportunity to attend classes with Professor Luciano, expressed, “He is an excellent professor, committed to pedagogy and the art of teaching; he is one of those professors you remember for a lifetime.”

It is important to highlight that Professor Álvaro Luciano Rivera Rojas holds a degree in Letters from the University of Valle and has a Master's in Colombian and Latin American Literature, also awarded by the same institution. His academic background and love for literature have been key to his significant contributions, not only in the Bachelor’s program in Literature and Spanish Language but also in other programs where he had the opportunity to teach, enriching his knowledge with insightful perspectives on psychoanalysis and art in general.
From our Alma Mater, we wish him great success in this well-deserved new phase of his life, hoping he continues to enjoy his passions and make the most of his personal projects. We hope this new stage allows him to cultivate his interests with the same dedication and that he remains a source of inspiration for all those who have had the privilege of learning from his wisdom and experience.
Thank you very much, Professor Luciano: your committed work will endure in every student who had the pleasure of receiving your guidance and participating in your classes!
