The Hydroinnovation Research Group Leads an Academic Space on Water Management

La Universidad -

The 2nd Water and Engineering Conference was held, addressing Hydraulic and Hydrology topics with contributions from national and international experts.

The Department of Hydraulics at the University of Cauca, along with its Hydroinnovation Research Group, organized the 2nd Water and Engineering Conference to celebrate World Water Day. The event, held on March 28, 2025, at the Francisco Lemos Arboleda Auditorium, featured a series of lectures with regional and international participants discussing topics such as water management, flood and disaster control, and water quality in urban drainage systems, among others.

This academic space for updating and deliberating on important Hydraulic and Hydrology issues was attended by external entities and the academic community. It presented analyses of precipitation and temperature trends in the country and the region, aiming to raise awareness about water resources among engineering students and the general public.

With this in mind, the research group invites Unicaucans to become part of it by contacting them at the email address hidroinnovacion@unicauca.edu.co.

Thus, engineering should not only focus on designing and implementing the appropriate and efficient infrastructure that brings water resources closer to homes and businesses but also be aware of the current challenges in water acquisition. This is the essence of the 2nd Water and Engineering Conference.

The Hydroinnovation Research Group, affiliated with the Faculty of Civil Engineering, has been working since 2019. Initially composed of students from Environmental Engineering and Civil Engineering, it now also includes Unicaucans from the Specialization in Water Resources and the Master's in Hydraulic and Hydrological Engineering, as well as members of the university community interested in these fields of knowledge.

For engineer and Unicaucana professor Andrea Marcela Bolaños Rodríguez, mentor of the Hydroinnovation research group, those who join this team receive training in topics not covered in the classrooms, such as using specific software and writing scientific articles based on research conducted by the group, which are presented at national and international events like the Latin American Hydraulic Congress.
