How Unicauca Shined in the 2024 Edition of the ASCUN National University Games for Staff
Athletes from the University of Cauca excelled in Tunja with an impressive performance at the 2024 ASCUN National University Games for Staff, bringing home 6 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals.
In a display of talent, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship, over 1,800 athletes from various universities across the country gathered in the Boyacá capital to compete in 14 sports disciplines. Join us as we review the participation of Unicauca members who indeed upheld the name of this institution, returning home with a total of 13 medals.
During the sporting event held from Wednesday, August 14, to Monday, August 19, the University of Cauca achieved outstanding results in various disciplines, including athletics. Staff members Cristhian Nicolás Figueroa Martínez and Eduardo Andrés Cañola Sotelo were standout performers in the 5K and 10K races, winning gold and silver medals in the master’s category. Meanwhile, Lina Marcela Jaller Díaz shone in the open category, securing a silver medal in the 5K race, contributing a total of 2 gold medals and 3 silver medals for the athletics team.
And in the men's doubles category of Tennis, Hugo Yair Orozco Dueñas and Karin Correa Arana won a bronze medal; a true testament to teamwork, as their skills on the court clearly reflected their collaborative efforts.

In Table Tennis, Daniel Alberto Jaramillo Morillo won a gold medal in the men's doubles and team events, as well as a bronze medal in the individual competition. Luis Ildemar Bolaños Andrade also excelled in the team event, contributing to a total of 2 gold medals and 1 bronze medal for the table tennis team. Their success highlights the value of joint training and dedication to both individual and collective improvement.
In Mini Tejo, a traditional Colombian game, Carmen Rosalba Beltrán Baquero won gold in the individual competition, while the doubles team, consisting of Alice Marina Díaz Betancourt, Viviana Marcela Celis Quinayas, and Francy Stella Martínez Velasco, earned a bronze medal.
Finally, the men's soccer team reaffirmed their champion status in the master’s category by winning the gold medal for the second consecutive year, and in the open category, they secured a bronze medal. This excellent outcome underscores the value of teamwork and the cohesion that defines the football spirit of the Alma Mater Caucana.
It is important to mention that this great outcome was also made possible thanks to the support of a delegation consisting of 5 coaches and 6 physiotherapists, Unicaucan professionals who were indispensable in the competitions, providing unwavering support to the 63 athletes from our University.
