The Greater Week is already here, schedule with the University of Cauca; your University!

At Alma Mater Caucana we feel very proud to be part of the most important cultural event in our city, providing spaces so that throughout this week citizens and visitors can enjoy art scenes and support the local economy.

During Holy Week, a time when Popayán, historically the White City of Colombia, becomes the protagonist due to its traditional religious processions and its cultural events framed in art and gastronomy, as Alma Mater Caucana we feel honored to be able to offer you to the entire city spaces in which they can contemplate art, history and acquire new knowledge, since as a regional thought center, we must ensure the cultural strengthening of our city since this is undeniably part of the actions of a university of excellence and solidarity. So, we invite you to be part of the different cultural scenarios that we have prepared for you.

One of the main events that takes place within the “Semana Mayor” is the International Classical Music Festival, which on this occasion carries out its XXXIII version. This traditional activity, which began on March 23 and will run until April 9, will offer different concerts "For Peace and Reconciliation" in the municipalities of Santander de Quilichao, Popayán, Guachené, Miranda, Caldono and Silvia, as well of piano recitals -such as the one scheduled for next Holy Thursday in our “Paraninfo” from 3:00 p.m- and symphonic music concerts. It should be noted that this Festival is the result of the perseverance of a group of people and institutions, such as the University of Cauca, which every year join efforts to offer the greatest classical music show to the Patoja citizens and that this year joins the collective efforts of the region to build Peace.

We are also supporting Manos de Oro, a space that brings together artisans from the region in our Faculty of Law, Political and Social Sciences. The good news is that, on this occasion, the University is present with the promotion of our educational offer (undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education), the editorial (to acquire all our publications), as well as with the inauguration of our University Store, a space where you will find different products that represent our Alma Mater and with which you can show your Unicaucan pride wherever you go. And in another of our university spaces, specifically in the Faculty of Arts, Bazartes will be held, a fair where art, design and music come together and where you can enjoy all the creativity of our students with free admission from April 4 to 8. Likewise, from April 5 to 8 at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences -Claustro del Carmen-, the traditional Orchid Exhibition will be held, which this year reaches its XXIII version, and where you can experience the sublime of being able to contemplate the beauty of nature, represented in the different species of this plant.

In the same way, from March 31 to April 9, we invite you to visit "La Casa Arte", a gallery that during these days has an interesting collective exhibition by different artists from the city; space located on Calle 4 # 1-14 in the La Pamba neighborhood. However, if what you are looking for is to delight your palate, the departmental Congress of traditional cooks, ethnic women and peasants, called "Achiote y Maní" is an excellent option. This activity will take place at the Casa de la Moneda Convention Center, from April 5 to 9, a gastronomic space where the work of the women in charge of keeping our traditional foods alive is recognized and exalted, as well as bringing generations forward. whole thanks to their job as cooks, an un-miss able without a doubt!

Finally, we would like to invite you to take a tour of our University Museums: Natural History Museum, Memory Center: Panteón de los Próceres and the Casa Museo Mosquera, important places of knowledge, which on this important date are available for you to see. Let's learn more about our political and biodiverse history. In order to enter these places, you can purchase the University Museums Passport, which costs $10,000 for adults and $5,000 for children, and gives you the chance to enter the three museums mentioned.

We reiterate our joy at being able to promote or support the activities described here and we invite everyone to make the most of the events that will take place within the framework of our Holy Week because, as traditionally happens, this year institutions as the Mayor's Office continue in the task of providing activities/spaces that allow their own and visitors to live the Christian faith, at the same time that they give the opportunity to the city's entrepreneurs to market their products, thus contributing to the economic development of the region .

Let us then explore all the alternatives that the White City offers us to celebrate this great festival, because beyond the beautiful and traditional processions, in different parts of the city the communities carry out their own customs, which are worth knowing and experiencing. : this is also part of the strengthening of a University of Excellence and Solidarity, which recognizes its commitment to the city that houses it as well as its support for those who inhabit it, supporting good actions that position and strengthen culture as a tool to have a better quality of life.
