Graduate of Social Communication from Unicauca participated in the Special Edition of the Semana Magazine

In the special called 'Life is leading', which highlights the fundamental contribution of social leaders to the country, Silvana Bolaños Torres made a journalistic work around the experiences of the farmers of the “corregimiento” of  "Cuatro Esquinas”, in El Tambo (Cauca) grouped in the Association of Agricultural Producers of Cocoa and Chontaduro - Apach; and of the women “sericultors” of “AgroArte”, represented by Amalfi Guata.

 

In commemoration of the 71 years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, signed on December 10, 1948, Semana magazine will publish this Saturday, December 14, the special edition called 'Life is Leading', in which the transcendental contribution that Social leaders make to the country is noted.

 

The special was launched in the city of Cartagena on Tuesday 10 during the Week Forum 'Defend the Defenders', space in which the graduate of the Social Communication program of the University of Cauca participated as a special guest, and teacher in Intercultural Studies, Silvana Bolaños Torres, who was part of the journalistic initiative with other leading professionals from all over Colombia. The event was attended, among other personalities, by President Iván Duque, Carlos Ruiz Massieu, Head of the UN verification mission in Colombia; Alberto Brunori, Representative of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; Claudia Mejía Duque, Director of SISMA Women's Corporation; and Monsignor Héctor Fabio Henao, Director of the Colombian social catholic ministry.

 

“I am pleased to have contributed to the recognition of the work of leaders of Cauca. In this case, of the farmers of El Tambo grouped in Apach, the Association of Agricultural Producers of Cacao and Chontaduro, located in Cuatro Esquinas; and of the women “sericultors” of “AgroArte”, represented by Amalfi Guata, ”said Bolaños Torres, whose article has photographs taken by the unicaucan professor Alfredo Valderruten.

 

Likewise, the journalist highlighted the important role played in the exercise of this occupation from the regions in the construction of peace and in contributing with new narratives that make visible the efforts of men and women who struggle daily to change imaginaries of war and pain , which focus on the defense of life and territory, of the care of natural resources, and of the unit to advance in their claim processes. "I am convinced that our work as journalists in the current context is to accompany those from the territories who are giving everything to build a country in peace," she said.

 

The journalistic special is carried out within the framework of the 'Lidera la Vida' campaign, convened by the Attorney General's Office, the Ombudsman's Office, the United States Agency for International Development - USAID, the Human Rights Consultancy and the displacement CODHES, the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Acnur, the Mission to Support the Peace Process of the Organization of American States (MAPP / OAS), and the National Association of Afro-Colombian Afro-Colombians, among others Allied partners
