Good News: Unicauca University Administration and Sintraunicol Sign Collective Agreement for Public Employees
The university administration and the board of directors of the Union of University Workers and Employees of Colombia (Sintraunicol), Sub-directorate of the University of Cauca, have signed the Collective Agreement for Public Employees, which will remain in effect for two years (until April 2027). The agreement was formalized on February 19, 2025, in the Council Hall of our institution.
On Wednesday, February 19, the signing of the Collective Agreement for Public Employees took place between the university administration and Sintraunicol. This agreement is the result of a negotiation process that began in March 2024, with the participation of representatives from Unicauca’s administration, the Sintraunicol board of directors, and a delegate from the union's base members.
Without a doubt, the signing of this agreement represents a significant moment for this institution of knowledge, as it not only strengthens the dialogue between the administration and the workers but also reaffirms the commitment of both parties to continue working together for this institution, where lives are transformed, and dreams come true.

"We are facing a very difficult situation: the structural underfunding that we have endured for years. We have been waiting for this issue to be resolved for the benefit of all, which has constantly pushed us to the limits of our institutional capacity to meet demands. Therefore, what we do is rationalize expenses, prioritize resource allocation, and do so with the love and commitment we have for an institution to which we owe everything," stated Rector Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, referring to the financial context in which the Collective Agreement was signed. He also emphasized the deep sense of gratitude and dedication that drives every member of the university community, which ultimately allows them to continue working collectively for their Alma Mater.
In line with this, Rocío Janeth Ceballos, President of the University Workers' Union – Sintraunicol, Sub-directorate of the University of Cauca, expressed: "We are aware of the financial situation of the university and Colombian universities in general. We are going through a difficult economic period. Therefore, in coherence with this reality, we welcome these agreements. We will inform our affiliated members that there are rights, but there are also commitments to the institution."

With the signing of this agreement, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to the well-being of those who make things happen—our workers—while also considering the institution's sustainability. The agreement establishes working conditions aimed at ensuring stability and better opportunities for employees while recognizing the importance of shared responsibility in building a university that is approaching its bicentennial and continues to strengthen itself as a #HeritageForAll.
