Good news: ¡With the delivery of special ovens and sports balls, FACNED boosts student well-being and technological innovation!
On Thursday, February 16th, as part of an effort to promote student well-being and technological innovation, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Exact Sciences, and Education delivered solar-powered microwave ovens as well as sports balls, all aimed at enhancing the well-being of our students.
Inspired by the initiative of a group of dedicated and committed students who organized a fundraiser for the purchase of microwave ovens, the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Exact Sciences, and Education decided to actively join forces and started managing the purchase through the Vice Rectory of Culture and Well-being. 'The ovens were delivered in November 2023, and from the Dean's Office, we began to manage the preparation of the space and installation. Grills were made to ensure their safe installation, and with the allocated resources, we also purchased the sports balls that the students had requested,' said Martha Idrobo, the Faculty's General Secretary.
Thus, the new solar ovens represent a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative for heating food, utilizing solar energy efficiently and without generating polluting emissions. This innovative system not only contributes to environmental protection but also provides students with the opportunity to engage with clean and renewable technologies. It is important to mention that not only was the purchase managed, but the good news is that the site has also been prepared to allow the ovens to operate with electrical power if needed as a contingency plan.
On the other hand, as mentioned earlier, in addition to the solar ovens, sports balls were also delivered to encourage physical activity and sportsmanship among the young people of this Faculty. These balls will be used to promote the practice of various sports disciplines, thus enhancing the physical and emotional well-being of the student community.
The delivery of these items is part of the ongoing efforts by the University of Cauca to provide its students with the best conditions for their academic, personal, and professional development. With initiatives like this, the institution reaffirms its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the overall well-being of the Unicaucan community.
