Good news for the Academic and Experimental Center La Sultana of Unicauca and residents of Urubamba hamlet: Construction of 'placa huella' will improve access to the area.

La Universidad -

On August 14, 2023, the construction of a 'placa huella' began in the Urubamba hamlet of the municipality of Timbío, a highly important civil work that will benefit the residents of this area and facilitate access to the Academic and Experimental Center La Sultana.

A few days ago, one of the most significant projects for the educational community and residents of the Urubamba hamlet in the municipality of Timbío began to take shape: the construction work for a 'placa huella' commenced, a process driven - among other reasons - with the aim of improving access to the Academic and Experimental Center La Sultana, an integral part of our Alma Mater.

This initiative is now a reality thanks to the management and collaborative work between the administration of the Academic and Experimental Center La Sultana and the Mayor's Office of Timbío. The 'placa huella', which will extend over 130 meters, will not only provide a safer and more comfortable route to reach the academic center but will also improve conditions at a critical point that is highly susceptible to accidents, becoming a matter of concern for those living in the area.

Regarding the progress of this particular development, it is planned that the construction will last around two months, and we are excited to share that the person in charge of carrying it out is a Civil Engineer, a graduate from our institution; Unicaucanos serving the community. This investment in infrastructure will not only have a positive impact on the students and staff of the academic center but also on the community in the area, as this improvement in access will not only enhance academic and experimental activities in La Sultana but also foster a safer and more accessible environment for everyone.

It is worth noting that the Academic and Experimental Center La Sultana has been part of the University of Cauca since 1999, spans an area of 13.5 hectares, is located 20 km from the municipality of Popayán, and 8 km from the urban area of the municipality of Timbío. It is affiliated with the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. "We carry out a training process based on an agricultural model aimed at improving the integrated agricultural production systems existing in the region," said Jorge Andrés Ordoñez Sánchez, administrator of the Center.

Thus, the University of Cauca celebrates this joint effort that reflects the commitment to education and local development and appreciates the support of the municipal administration of Timbío. The construction of the 'placa huella' in the Urubamba hamlet represents a significant step towards improving conditions, and we are looking forward to the positive impact it will have on the community. In this way, we also contribute to the strengthening of a Solidarity University.
