Articulation axes will be established for carrying out academic, training, research, social projection and dissemination of culture, science, technology and innovation activities between the two institutions.

In the session room of the Santander de Quilichao Municipal Council, the framework agreement for inter-institutional cooperation between the University of Cauca and the Mayor's Office of this North Caucan municipality was made official today, which will contribute to join efforts in favor of the strengthening of public higher education in this region.

“Our purpose is to consolidate this presence in the North of Cauca, where we have been advancing and complying with infrastructure projects, equal rights and accessibility to education, and this agreement is fundamental in those purposes for permanence, but it is also necessary to support the zero enrollment initiative to guarantee access and permanence for all students”, indicated the rector of the Universidad del Cauca, José Luis Diago Franco.

The university director explained that on the issue of access to higher education, they have been working with the Government of Cauca to generate special quotas for high school graduates from the north of Cauca, also seeking the articulation of the Mayor's Offices, and in this way have a headquarters university for the north of Cauca, with academic programs for the region.

Regarding the University Citadel project that is being built in Santander de Quilichao, he indicated that it is advancing with the support of the Government of Cauca, a purpose in which the university community and society in general are being fulfilled.

The Mayor of Santander de Quilichao, Lucy Amparo Guzmán González, expressed the importance for the municipality of signing this agreement, indicating that the University of Cauca is fundamental in the development of the municipality and in the fulfillment of its fundamental aspects raised in the developmental Plan

“On December 24, the approval of the Higher Education Fund was achieved through which a fixed budget will be allocated for the payment of tuition and student support, a project that has the endorsement of the Municipal Council, and that transcends the commitment to quilichagueña youth, as a public policy of accompaniment to youth”, stated the mayor of Santander de Quilichao.

He highlighted that the signing of the agreement with the University of Cauca, with the Popayán University Foundation and with the Universidad del Valle, will guide the indicators of access and permanence in higher education in the municipality and in the north of the department, having as a reference the experience of the municipalities of Villarrica and Guachené in the creation of municipal funds for higher education.

Likewise, the Civil Engineer Yolanda Garcés Mazorra, representative of the Productive Sector in the Superior Council and Regional Director of ANDI Cauca, described this act as important in the articulation of the government sector, academia and the business sector, helping in the training of young people in the region, in addition to consolidating the institutional purposes that the University of Cauca has led for several years to strengthen its presence in the region.

It is noteworthy that the framework agreement will allow the development of academic and advisory activities, the development of research activities, and the performance of cultural activities, among others, for which a specific agreement will be established as the case may be.
