A former student of Unicauca is the new manager of the First Line of the Bogotá Metro

The Civil Engineer from the University of Cauca, José Leonidas Narváez Morales, took office the previous week as the new Manager of the Bogotá Metro Company. In an interview with Unicauca –“Al Día” Radio, he stated that his management will be based on responsibility, dedication and energy.

 

José Leónidas Narváez Morales, a graduate of the Civil Engineering and Land Roads Specialist program at the Universidad del Cauca, took office on January 29, 2021 as manager of the Bogotá Metro company in charge of the construction of the first line of the Metro , said in the microphones of the newscast Unicauca “al Día” Radio, that he received this appointment with the responsibility, dedication and energy that he will dedicate to this transcendental project that has great expectations and fundamental challenges both for the city and for national engineering, because it will establish mechanisms for safe, sustainable and clean mobility to benefit the quality of life of Bogota citizens.

 

Likewise, the engineer Narváez, who in his 39 years of experience has held different positions and developed projects of the local, regional and national order, indicated that in this long-awaited work, very important norms regarding environmental and social impact must be respected and fulfilled. , health, safety and risks associated with the construction and operation of the project.

 

The impacts generated by the Project in the technical structuring of section One of the first line of the Bogotá Metro must also be identified, described and evaluated, for which two scenarios have been analyzed: without a project and with a project, to meet the guidelines of the terms of reference issued by the “Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional” (FDN) in November 2016.

 

"I feel very honored, grateful and therefore committed to the execution of this great project," said engineer Narváez, who was born in Palmira (Valle del Cauca) and has held important positions in the public and private sectors, among others, General Director of the National Highway Institute (INVIAS) from 2012 to 2014 and Vice President of Contract Management of the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), in 2018.

 

According to its new manager, the Metro de Bogotá company, which was established in 2017, has complied with the expected cycles and the financial structuring process obtained resources from the Nation and the capital of the country in a ratio of 70/30, in In 2019 the concession contract was awarded, in August of that year the company that will carry out the audit was chosen, and in September the initiation act was signed with the Supervisor PLMB consortium, in charge of monitoring the execution of the project.

 

The first line of the Bogotá Metro is considered the most important urban mobility project in the country and in the Capital District. Around 2.9 million Bogota citizens will benefit directly from it, but all Colombians will be able to enjoy the most desired project in Colombia, which will have a capacity to accommodate up to 60 trains of 145 meters long by 2.90 meters wide; each one will have between 6 and 7 wagons and a capacity of 1,800 passengers. The total cost of the first line of the Bogotá Metro exceeds $ 23 billion pesos, of which the Nation contributes 70%, representing $ 16.06 billion, and the District the remaining 30%.

 

This work was conceived with urban, environmental and financial sustainability criteria that will benefit the city and future users, because it will have a length of 23.96 kilometers, with 16 stations, 10 of them directly integrated with Troncales de Transmilenio and 28 buildings of access, said engineer Narváez Morales.
