The Forests and Silviculture Research Group participates in the Training Diploma for Agroecological Seed Caregivers.
A group of seven students from the Forests and Silviculture Research Group in the Forest Engineering program, accompanied by Professor Alex Ordóñez, represented the University of Cauca at the first meeting of the fourth cohort of the Agroecological Seed Caregivers Training Diploma, which took place in the city of Pasto, Nariño.
The event, which brought together various stakeholders interested in agroecology and seed preservation, focused on creating connections between communities and nature, with a particular emphasis on seed care, food security, and the well-being of future generations. During the meeting, the importance of traditional practices related to sowing, harvesting, and processing seeds was highlighted as essential for strengthening the territory and promoting sustainable development. "The goal of such initiatives is to contribute to a sustainable and just future, where seeds and nature are valued and respected," stated Professor Ordóñez.
The participation of these students not only strengthens their academic training but also reflects the University of Cauca's commitment to environmental preservation and the promotion of sustainable development in the region. This event, beyond being an academic experience, invites reflection on the essential role that young people play in protecting our environment. It is in their hands to uphold the ancestral practices that have nurtured the land and its fruits, ensuring that the legacy of seeds, as symbols of life and continuity, endures for future generations.
