The I Latin American Congress on Social and Community Speech Therapy, organized by the University of Chile and the Latin American Network of Critical Speech Therapy and Collective Health, from June 1 to 3, 2023, in the city of Santiago, Chile, served as a space for reflection, analysis, and dissemination of the state of the profession's practice, research, outreach, and teaching on Social and Community Speech Therapy in the region.
The event, which facilitated the strengthening of academic cooperation between institutions and Speech Therapy programs in the region from a critical perspective, had the participation of representatives from different organizations and higher education institutions from Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, and Colombia.
From the University of Cauca, professors Alexandra Campo presented her lecture titled: "Practices of elders regarding language, speech, and hearing difficulties in Nasa indigenous people from the Páez de Corinto indigenous reserve in Cauca"; Amparo López presented the lecture "Disability: meanings constructed in the school experience," and Gissel Mosquera presented a poster titled "Construction of an inclusive higher education policy: the experience of a Colombian university."
The representation of the Alma Mater in these spaces is undoubtedly an opportunity for institutional projection at the national and international levels, strengthens ties with other institutions, and creates academic networks that promote the production and circulation of knowledge for the benefit of the region.
