ComSoCauca research seedbed is consolidated in the dissemination of advances in telecommunications

La Universidad -

The group of students from the University of Cauca associated with the IEEE student branch works on topics related to the advances of communication technologies to exchange knowledge related to telecommunications networks and computers.

The Student Chapter and research hotbed ComSoCauca (Communication Society), associated with the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering), led by Professor Oscar M. Caicedo, since 2016 has been consolidated as an important research focus within the Faculty of Engineering Electronics and Telecommunications of the Universidad del Cauca. This is how the student Natalia Sofía Rubín Castillo, president of the IEEE ComSoCauca, made it known.

“The activities in this chapter are directed towards the dissemination of information and advancement in the field of communications, delving into its most current topics. From this arduous work numerous scientific publications are obtained every year”, he added.

Since November last year, members of ComSoCauca have published internationally in highly relevant magazines such as:

MDPI Applied Sciences (Publindex A1), by Alejandra Duque, Felipe Amézquita, Armando Ordoñez, and Oscar Caicedo.

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (Publindex A1), by Felipe Estrada-Solano and Oscar Caicedo.

IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management (Publindex A1), by Carlos Tobar, Faiber Botina, Kelly Tobar, and Oscar Caicedo.

Computer Networks (Publindex A1), by Edwin Castillo, Oscar Caicedo, and Armando Ordoñez.

MDPI Applied Sciences (Publindex A1), by Daniela Embus, Julián Castillo, Fulvio Vivas, Oscar Caicedo, and Armando Ordoñez.

ESPACIOS (Publindex B), by Edwin Castillo and Oscar Caicedo (Gustavo Ramírez, professor at the Department of Telematics also participated).

IEEE Access (Publindex A1), by Carlos Tobar, Armando Ordoñez, and Oscar Caicedo.

And recently a group of students from the University of Cauca in the process of undergraduate work published in the Colombian Conference of Communications COLCOM, in the form of Posters, standing out as the university with the largest number of Posters published:

Nicole Palomino and Jorge Castillo Article - Efficient routing of flows in software-defined networks from the data plane.

Kevin Muñoz and Juan Manuel Solís - Congestion control mechanism for latency in a Slice dedicated to URLLC: a case study in remote surgery.

Camilo Segura - Knowledge Defined Networks for Vehicle Communications in 5G

Santiago Martínez and José Luis Rincón - Efficient admission control at the core of a 5G network based on reinforcement learning for the remote surgery service

Sofía Rubín Castillo and Brayam Otero Pomeo - REI: An Intelligent Routing Approach supported in Reinforcement Learning for SDN

It should be noted that the IEEE Student Branch has had a presence in Alma Mater since 1985, and the ComSoc specialized chapter officially began operating in 2017, as a group of global industry professionals with a common interest in advances in communications technologies. It is considered the first international forum to exchange knowledge related to telecommunications networks and computers.

ComSoCauca members have support for their academic work, through interaction with other international members in the production of publications, organization of conferences, promotion of local activities, and work in technical committees.
