CDT Vial Project Concludes Second Outreach and Research Results Delivery Meeting

The event was successfully held at the Universidad del Cauca, where reports on the characterization results of two material sources were delivered to the beneficiary municipalities.

On May 20, the event titled 'Secondary Roads: A Development Engine in the Department of Cauca' was held as part of the Second Meeting for the Delivery and Dissemination of Results of the Project for the Formation of a Technological Development Center for Road Infrastructure Innovation in the Department of Cauca - BPIN 2018000100167. The purpose of this meeting was to deliver reports on the results of the characterization of two material sources to the beneficiary municipalities.

During this event, the research work was shared, and a detailed report was provided on the identification, selection, and evaluation of the quarries selected for each municipality. This document includes the research objectives, the methodology used, the diagnosis and prioritization of the areas, the location of the quarries, the municipal diagnosis, geology and mass movement threats, prioritization of material sources, sample collection process, material source classification using the ANA MINERIA application, geotechnical evaluation of the material, and conclusions.

After the delivery of the reports, a conference was held by engineer Fernando Chacón, titled 'Technical-Economic Comparison of Pavement Alternatives for Secondary Roads,' and the APP Canteras application was presented by engineer Iván Felipe Erazo. This research project is designed to assist the beneficiary municipalities in identifying and characterizing available material sources for the design, construction, and rehabilitation of secondary road corridors.

The CDT Vial is a project carried out by the Universidad del Cauca in partnership with the Royal Institute of Technology KTH, the Cauca Governor's Office, and funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation through the General Royalties System. Its main objective is to enhance technological development and applied research capacity to offer new alternatives for managing the secondary road system in the department of Cauca, directly benefiting 37 municipalities.

During the meeting, we had the participation of distinguished authorities and representatives, including Francisco José Pino, Acting Rector of the Universidad del Cauca; Edwin Lasso Zapata, Secretary of Infrastructure of the Department of Cauca; Amarildo Correa Obando, General Director of the Corporación Autónoma Regional del Cauca (CRC); Jairo Dorado, Territorial Director Cauca, Ministry of Transportation; and representatives from 19 of the 37 beneficiary municipalities, including: Argelia, Balboa, Buenos Aires, Cajibío, Caldono, Corinto, Florencia, Jambaló, Piendamó, Popayán, San Sebastián, Santander de Quilichao, Sucre, Miranda, El Tambo, Toribío, Totoró, and Villa Rica.

Similarly, the event was attended by 131 people, including students, faculty members, businesspeople, mayors, municipal planning and infrastructure secretaries, representatives from the COLPROF oversight committee, and members of the general community.
