Call for the Art and Alterity Seminar 2024: An Exploration of the Ecosophic Object

La Universidad -

From September 25 to 27, 2024

On September 25 at 8:30 a.m., the opening ceremony of the seventh edition of the seminar "Art and Alterity" will take place at the Banco de la República Auditorium, under the theme "The Work of Art as an Ecosophic Object."

This event invites artists, scientists, philosophers, and the general public to reflect on the complex intersection of art, ethics, and ecology in the contemporary context.

The goal of this seventh edition is to build upon the reflections of thinkers like Ludwig Feuerbach and Michel Foucault, and it aims to provide a space to discuss the transformation of the human figure in a world where technology and art intertwine. In a context where humans are no longer the center of knowledge but rather one element within a vast interconnected network, the seminar seeks to challenge the thought structures that shape our perceptions and practices.

The objectives of this important academic space are:

1. Explore the construction of existential territories: Reflect on how we position ourselves in a chaotic and constantly changing world.

2. Develop a new existential paradigm: Investigate the ethological, ecological, and ethical aspects that will guide our future interactions with the environment.

The seminar will feature lectures, workshops, and roundtable discussions aimed at generating enriching dialogue across various disciplines. Participation from a range of artistic expressions, including visual arts, music, graphic design, and literature, will be encouraged to explore the concept of the "ecosophic object" as an evolving entity.

For this seventh edition, the seminar will host guests such as: Emma Sanchez Baizabal, PhD in Philosophy of Technology from UNAM (Mexico); Nadia Soledad Martin, Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina); Jean-Clet Martin, PhD in Philosophy from the University of Paris VIII; Bruno Iacomella, graduate in Graphic Design (2010) and a degree in Sociology from the University of Buenos Aires, with specializations in Industrial Design, Illustration, and Typography; Jazmín Adler, PhD in Comparative Art Theory from UBA (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina) and director of the Postgraduate Program Technologies in Contemporary Art; Juan Diego Parra, PhD in Philosophy and Literature Specialist, contributor to compilations on semiology; Maria Ximena Alvarado Burbano, PhD in Musicology from the University of Music Franz Liszt, UNESCO Chair in Transcultural Music Studies (Germany), among others. These names are just a small glimpse of what this seventh edition has to offer, and it is important to note that this is a free event.
