In the Big Leagues: Unicauca held a high-level event focused on Physical Education, Sports Physiotherapy, and Sports Sciences
On June 5 and 6, the capital of Cauca was the meeting point for students, researchers, and leading experts, all interested in fascinating fields of knowledge, gathered around the Congress on Physical Education, Sports Physiotherapy, and Sports Sciences. This event was organized by the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Natural, Exact, and Education Sciences, with the support of the Center for Continuing, Open, and Virtual Education – CECAV of the Universidad del Cauca
Over two days, filled with valuable content, a prestigious meeting took place at the Casa de la Moneda Convention Center. The main objective of this event was to promote a reflective space where knowledge and experiences were shared in an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary manner regarding scientific evidence in sports sciences. Additionally, this congress provided an opportunity to enrich the knowledge of those interested in these three disciplines. 'This event is very important because it has continued to foster collaboration between the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Natural, Exact, and Education Sciences; a collaboration that has generated various academic activities and practical scenarios. Furthermore, this event allowed for significant international networking, providing greater opportunities for our students, both for academic mobility and for gaining insights from other experiences,' said Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, Rector of the Universidad del Cauca, highlighting how the Alma Mater of Cauca materializes such important spaces, strengthening Physical Education and its initial training area. Let us remember that our rector holds a degree in Physical Education from the Universidad del Valle.
Professor Andrés Felipe Villaquirán, coordinator of the event, commented on the development of these sessions: 'We achieved our objectives, with 20 speakers, 15 national and 5 international. We also succeeded in having undergraduate and graduate students from different universities across the country present their papers, thus demonstrating that research is being conducted in the sports field. Another important aspect is that through the Congress we have managed to connect the university with the environment, specifically with the private sector, as we invited various companies involved in this field to participate through 15 stands.'
Similarly, Liseth Gabriela Mora, a student in our Physiotherapy program, said: 'My goal is to become a sports physiotherapist, so I am enhancing my knowledge at this event. I have spoken with Spanish speakers about the possibility of continuing my studies at their university, and the opportunities are high. This Congress has indeed met all my expectations'.
Thus, from this educational institution where academic excellence always guides our steps, we celebrate that such meetings are being fostered, contributing to achieving the goals we have set. Beyond being a high-level academic event in the sports field, this space represents the realization of many people's dreams: from the speakers visiting us from other countries to share their expertise, to the administrative staff who made it possible, and the students or practicing professionals who strive daily to give their best in their careers, dreaming of working in various fields with cutting-edge information.
Congratulations to everyone whose commitment and dedication made this meeting, which had over 300 registrants, a success! We look forward to the next edition of this interesting congress.
