Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics Heading Towards the High-Quality Accreditation Renewal
We continue to work to guarantee access to public and excellent education for those who are trained at the Alma Mater in Cauca. For this reason, on August 23rd and 24th of this year, the Bachelor's Degree program in Mathematics received a visit from academic peers with the purpose of obtaining the renewal of High-Quality Accreditation.
The Bachelor's Degree program in Mathematics was created on May 6th, 1977, through Resolution 3953, thus unifying the development of pure and applied mathematics that had been promoted thanks to the Faculties of Engineering and Accounting; faculties that at that moment in history were undergoing a considerably extensive growth process and led to rethinking the organic structure of our University.
In this sense, the development of the Mathematics Department, like the growth of the different academic units of the University of Cauca, has been linked to responding with relevance and assertiveness to the different demands of the educational sphere, always seeking academic excellence. Consequently, on February 8th, 2011, our Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics received Qualified Registration and, on May 25th, 2017, after meeting all associated requirements, obtained High-Quality Accreditation, providing its students with the necessary tools to perform as educators with standards associated with the highest academic level.
Thus, for some time now, the Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics began preparing to renew its High-Quality Accreditation, evaluating heuristic aspects such as teaching quality, research, suitability of its teachers, infrastructure, resources available for students, among other established standards and criteria, with the clear mission that the visit from academic peers would be very fruitful. 'The balance is positive. The visit from external peers is always enriching because it allows us to contrast the result of the self-assessment exercise with the way they perceive us from the outside. In this context, the evaluation by academic peers from the National Accreditation Council (CNA) represents a valuable and positive resource to guarantee excellence in the program being visited, in this case, the Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics,' said Alexander Buendía, Director of the Center for Quality Management and Institutional Accreditation.
In compliance with our institutional commitment and in line with the passion that our university community has for carrying out their tasks, we will continue with the respective processes of continuous improvement, as it inspires us to keep transforming the lives of those who see higher education as the best tool to make their dreams come true. From the University of Cauca, we hope to soon be able to share the results of this very special process and continue working as a team to consolidate ourselves as a University that, on the path to the Bicentennial, stands for Excellence and Solidarity.
