The Vice-Rector of Culture and Well-being of the University of Cauca, Deibar René Hurtado, spoke at Unicauca Estéreo about the initiative led by the Integral Health Division and the Tramados Program, which seeks to raise awareness about self-care in times of quarantine.

“The campaign was born in response to this pandemic situation in which we find ourselves, in mandatory preventive isolation, the Tramados program of the Integral Health and Human Development Division decided to carry out a campaign that would reach the entire community through telephone assistance, conducted a COVID survey of 386 people, workshops as a way of community care on the idea of ​​developing response capacity against the consumption of psychoactive substances at this time of confinement in which we find ourselves, ”the Vice-rector of Culture and Well-being of the University of Cauca, Deibar René Hurtado on the campaign "COVID is not a party."

The response has been very positive; from the understanding that any activity that is carried out with the idea of ​​encouraging the prevention of the consumption of psychoactive substances is important and also that the Tramados program also provides psychological and psychiatric support, which these days are in high demand. “This confinement has triggered situations that had already been presented and that are exacerbated because other spaces for socialization are diminished that allowed people to free themselves a little from the stress of everyday life and the children who are in consumption begin to feel anxiety, they need that Accompaniment, therefore, the response has been very positive because this program did not stop during vacations because the problems do not stop”, adds Professor Deibar René Hurtado.

Social isolation is key and precisely in those spaces of consumption of psychoactive substances such as marijuana or intoxicating drinks, they are constituted in spaces of high risk of contagion and this makes people put themselves in a situation of vulnerability and of being infected by COVID 19. "We understand that the situation in which we find ourselves makes people look for spaces to consume this type of substances and take unnecessary risks, but what it is about is to make ourselves aware that precisely as the campaign is titled, COVID is not a party, and that is why the activities are oriented in the context of confinement and the pandemic where the risks increase exponentially, because it is no longer just a matter of dependency but of public health ”, emphasizes the University Director.

In this way, initiatives such as the Listening Center, with the support of the Communications Management Center, are options where the university community can contact programs such as Tramados and the Comprehensive Health and Human Development Division. “With the confinement, the vulnerability in consumption is much higher and we have to seek through these spaces to give the support that allows creating networks to face this situation, that is why we seek to promote healthy lifestyles with the participation of children in all cultural agendas and sports, which is also a way to prevent consumption, but also to meet other people who have common interests”.

The prevention campaign "COVID is not a rumba" is participating in a national call of the Ministry of Health. “We hope that it will become a significant experience for the management of these types of problems that arise not only in the University, but also in the municipality, in the department and in the country and I believe that also on a global level, because the data show that consumption is increasing more and more and that is related to loneliness and the lack of options that young people have”, concluded the Vice-Rector for Culture and Well-being of the University of Cauca.
