Ph.D. in Electronic Sciences
The Ph.D. in Electronics is an advanced training Program offered in Popayan by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of Cauca. It provides the highest level of education which forms researchers able to guide academic and research processes in specific areas of knowledge that develops in accordance with Decree 1001 of April 2006.
This Program of ten (10) semesters is divided into two cycles: a Research Masters Cycle of four (4) semesters and a Doctoral training course of six (6) semesters. There are research groups: Industrial Automatic, Research and Development of Software Engineering, Telecommunications and New Technologies at the University of Cauca. These groups develop respectively the following specific areas of knowledge: Automatic, Computing, and Telecommunications Systems. The curriculum structure ( which is shown in section 3), seeks to provide a strong background in scientific research and technologies impact on the area of Engineering, particularly in the research lines of signal analysis and Telecommunication Systems (System Communication Area), Control and Robotics (Automatic Area), and Software Engineering (Computer Area).
Graduate Profile:
Graduates of the Program will have a scientific formation with a high level of competence in the specific areas of Automation, Computing and Telecommunication Systems, especially in the Control Lines and Robotics, Software Engineering or Systems Analysis and Telecommunication Signals. The training given to them to perform independently and guide academic processes or scientific research in any of the above areas and continue to make significant original contributions and for the advancement of science and technology. The graduates will also have a detailed overview of development trends in any of these areas and a deep understanding of the scientific, technical, economic, and social assimilation and use of these sciences in the present and into the near future. The Program will establish an apt environment so at the end of it, the graduates find themselves: • convinced of the need to generate new knowledge as a cornerstone for the advancement of society. Determined to contribute significantly to the strengthening and consolidation of R&D (research and development) in the country and integrate high performance teams. • With continuous training in producing results in terms of significance publications or products innovation. • Trained for the proper formulation of proposals and projects of scientific research and development. • Trained to guide academic quality processes related to their area of scientific research. • Systematically trained in strategic planning, monitoring technology, and science and technology foresight. • With a strong internalization of the culture of the publication. • Able to successfully communicate with the international community in both Spanish and a foreign language. • Committed to the consolidation of the scientific and academic community that cultivates discipline.
