Graduate Specialist in Family Medicine

Family Medicine is the specialty that allows the designing of medicine services models in line with the epidemiological profile and the Health Social Security System of the country.  It is a recognized specialty in the world, having a defined body of knowledge that responds to a systematic view of health-disease processes.

This specialization takes into account the comprehensive medical care with particular emphasis on the family unit.  The continuing responsibility of the physician is not limited by age or gender of the patient, or by a particular organ or by a pathological entity.

This postgraduate program is built on a core of knowledge derived from other disciplines, such us Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery and Psychiatry.  The combination of those disciplines establishes a cohesive unit and combines Social and Behavioral Sciences with biological Science and traditional Medicine.

The program trains the specialist to act as the first contact between the patient and the health services network, in order to advise and guide the patient and try to remedy problems in the search for solutions with the appropriate social network support.
